Blot Printing
Here is another easy activity that your kids will want to do over and over again as they can produce so many different designs and patterns.
Over 3's will insist on doing this themselves but under 3's will need some adult assistance.
What you need
* paints of different colours
* patty cake or muffin tin
* spoons
* paper
Process
1. Fill patty tin with different colours of paint.
2. Fold a piece of paper in half and re-open.
3. Using a spoon drop blobs of paint down the fold of the paper.
4. Fold the paper back in half and gently rub the two sides of the paper together, pressing out from the fold to the edge of the paper.
5. Unfold the paper and Presto! you have created a great print! What can you see?
]Hints[/B]
* By pressing out the blobs you can control in which direction you want them to go, up or down or sideways?
* Try adding paint on one side of the paper aswell as down the middle and see what you can create? maybe a butterfly? a monster?
* Use a texta and trace around the shapes. What can you see?
* Cut out the shapes and create a collage.
* Laminate and add magnets
Benefits of this activity
* Children will learn 'cause and effect' as they push out the blobs of paint, what will happen if I push the paint this way?
* Colour recognition.
* Pattern recognition
* Imagination - What can I see in the print?
* Language development as you talk to your child about the process of the activity and the colours that are used.
* Hand and eye coordination as your child coordinates their hand as they push the paint up and down and sideways on the paper.
* Social skills - talking about the print, confidence in achieving an end result.
But most of all have fun with your child as you create together!
