Magic Painting
July 5th 2008 02:27
Your child will have fun with this activity as they observe their drawings and/or squiggles magically come to life when they brush them over with paint.
What you need
* White candle or crayons
* Thin water paints such as water and food colouring or edicol dye (***see below)
* Paint brush
What to do
1.Encourage your child to draw a picture, shapes or to make scribbles and squiggles on the paper using either the candle or the crayons.
2.Ask them to now paint over their drawing using the brush and water colours.
3.Wow! Watch as your drawings come to life……Magic isn’t it?
This activity is a very sensory/tactile one for your child. It will also assist with developing fine motor skills as they manipulate the candle, crayons and the brush. Their vocabulary is extended as you talk with them about the drawings, scribbles and/or squiggles that they are making on the paper and the colours that they are using etc. Their confidence is also boosted as they take pride in their finished creation!
But most of all...have fun with your child as you share 'creating' together!
Until next time,

***Edicol dye is a non-toxic vegetable dye that is available in a powder form. It can be mixed into water to produce a thin paint or added to cornflour to make a thicker paint. It can also be added to glue. You can buy edicol from Educational shops or good craft shops. A little goes a long, long way
